In the very initial stages of the traffic stop, a second Brevard County Deputy arrived on the scene and began to assist with addressing three occupants of the vehicle. 192 just west of Interstate 95 in West Melbourne. Monday afternoon when one of our Deputies conducted a traffic stop on a vehicle off of U.S. I had a chance to speak with both of them and to share with them how proud I am for the way they responded to this extremely violent thug who ambushed and attempted to kill both of our Deputies as well as put other lives at risk, including a 2-month-old baby who was in the backseat of the car where the suspect first began firing from. While both of our Deputies were involved in the Deputy-Involved Shooting, thankfully only one of them sustained injuries and I am relieved to share with you that while he was shot in the line of duty, his injuries are not life-threatening and he is expected to make a full recovery. As I always tell everyone we are blessed to serve as law enforcement officers in Brevard County as our citizens love us and today is a perfect example of just how true that statement is! Prior to his employment with the Sheriff’s Office, Deputy Thoman was employed as a Corrections Officer in Volusia County. He also proudly served in the United States Marine Corps from 2003 through 2009.ĭeputy Potters sustained non-life-threatening injuries during the incident and is expected to make a full recovery.ĭeputy Thoman has been a member of the Brevard County Sheriff’s Office since December of 2018 and is currently assigned to Patrol Services in Canaveral Precinct. Prior to his employment with the Sheriff’s Office, Deputy Potters was employed by the Titusville Police Department and Fayette County Sheriff’s Office in Kentucky. He is currently assigned to North Precinct Patrol Services in Titusville. Deputy Potters has been a member of the Brevard County Sheriff’s Office since March of 2020.
